Kampo is a type of traditional Japanese medicine that has its roots in traditional Chinese Medicine. It’s said that Buddhist monks, the first practitioners of Kampo, brought with them medicinal knowledge when they came over to Japan from China in the 5th and 6th centuries.
Kampo is like traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurveda in the sense that they both focus on holistic approaches.
Japanese Kampo is made from natural ingredients – mainly plants. Mushrooms in Kampo are said to not only be nutrient-dense but may also contain medicinal properties that have been used for healing properties for thousands of years.
